Hello my foodie friends! My name is Brittney and I am Cosmopolitan Kitchen’s lead writer, food-lust photographer, and primary recipe taste-tester (I know, I know.. best job right there)! I adore divine coffee drinks, rich tomato or mushroom soups, sauce-y meats, and pretty much 99% of the meals Gerard shares with me. I, personally, am not as patient a chef as he. When I cook, it’s because I’m craving something specific and am determined to bring it to life. My expertise seems to lie in the realm of seafood: crab bisque, shrimp pesto, almond crusted salmon.
My mission with Cosmopolitan Kitchen is to share the many stories surrounding food that I’ve both experienced with Gerard as well as my family and friends, growing up, travelling, dining out (it’s no secret to anyone who knows us that we love great restaurants). We want to add a dash of culture to our recipes, whether it be in the ingredients themselves, a signature dish, or a piece of knowledge about the language or custom from another country. I also want my photos to convey the mouth-watering nature of the foods that we plate and for you to be inspired to try something new, cook for someone you love, impress a friend or colleague, and build lifelong memories around your meals.
Part of my duality is that, while I love food that tastes great regardless of how fattening it may be, I also have a passion for nutrition and health. I will do my part to share blog posts about nutrition, healthy eating, and occasionally we want to try out recipes for the dairy-free person, the vegetarian, the vegan, or the gluten-free community. We may not be any one of those things consistently, but it’s part of the spice of life to test out the variety of alternative diets, especially if it lends a positive effect on your health.
That being said, my background is in Kinesiology, which leads me to be inquisitive about the human body and the way our environment impacts our health: such as the food we eat and the activities in which we partake. I spent a few years working in a chiropractic and weight less clinic, gaining valuable knowledge about holistic health.
I now am a member of the financial work-o-sphere where sitting all day, eating donuts, bagels, and drinking too much coffee circulates around me like wildfire!
I do my best not to succumb, bringing my leftover lunches packed by chef Gerard and letting the aroma of home cooking fill the kitchen; sharing recipe ideas with my coworkers and in general – talking about food all day long! It’s also tough to resist the temptation of the hundreds of delicious options available in the skyways: we’ve got greek, african, mediterranean, indian, japanese, italian, french, chinese, there’s pho, banh mi, crepes, salad shops, sandwich shops, soups, coffee galore!
I just got hungry writing about all the options. On top of that, around where I live there are so many amazing restaurants it can be hard to narrow down which places to go or new ones to try!
It’s always fun to grab a bite somewhere, discussing the flavors with Gerard and sometimes our waiter or chef, gaining inspiration for our next recipe! When I’m not devouring delicacies you may find me writing, watching too many adorable dog videos, dancing, reading, working out, watching food and health documentaries, or trying things that are out-of-the-ordinary like belly dancing or my current obsession, lyra aerial hoop.
Stay a while! Check out our ever-growing recipe selection, leave us a comment, share your own recreation, tell a friend. We’re happy you’re here!
